“VARKIES” – Grade 8 ORIENTATION
The new Grade 8’s were introduced to the school as “Die Varkies / The Piglets”
In the first week of high school life, they learnt about school spirit every
morning as they entertained the rest of the school with the various school war cries, which were taught to them by the Matric Council members.
All the prefects were in charge of a specific Grade 8 class.
Each class was responsible for a play which they had to put together, practise and perform at the annual “Groentjiekonsert”.
The theme of this year’s concert was, of course: PIGS! The Grade 8’s had the opportunity to show off all their hidden acting talents and really entertainted the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles....even the teachers! The usual “SPA Treatment” at the farm did not disappoint and all the new teachers had their “taste” of true Bekker hospitality!!
The Principal, Mr Ellis, spoke to the new parents and ensured them that their children will be looked after and will receive the best possible education at Hoërskool Bekker. Many parents who were a bit apprehensive, went home feeling satisfied that they had made the right choice of high school for their “little ones.”
After the concert on Saturday, parents (with their children) had a relaxing braai at the lapa and had the chance to meet some of the teachers. The orientation week was thoroughly enjoyed by all and all newcomers got the know one another!
Welcome to Bekker, “Varkies!”
